How To Make The Most Out Of A Weekend In Boracay, Philippines

by - 8:56 PM

If you're going to Boracay Island or thinking to go anytime soon then you must read this post. Boracay is known for having some of the 10 Top Ten Beaches Of The World!!! Whether you're coming here for a honeymoon, white sandy beaches, crystal clear turquoise waters, or water sports such as helmet diving then this is a place to must visit at least once in your lifetime.

My boyfriend and I picked the best spot to celebrate our anniversary especially for how little vacation time we had to use. We were only here for 3 days but made the most out of it. If you're ever in the Philippines, make sure you spend some time in Boracay! I promise you won't regret it.

I put together a list of things that you should do, try, and see while you are in Boracay Island:

Stay in a cute villa in the jungle:

Since it was our anniversary, we decided to splurge on this beautiful little villa on the island. We stayed at The Mandala Spa & Resort and the room that we stayed in was the Garden View Villa. I have a entire detailed blog post with my honest review and opinion if you would like to check it out here. Upon arrival they greeted us with complimentary welcome drinks (which you can see in my YouTube vlog here) and a lovely entrance to our villa.

They knew it was our anniversary (cough couch James for sending them an email lol) so they made sure that our stay was extra special! They sprinkled the whole villa with rose petals and left little notes congratulating us on our milestone in our love. The staff is very friendly and always very accommodating on everything. They're very genuine with their kindness and hospitably unlike some hotels I've stayed at in the past. I'm very skeptical when hotel employees are nice to me because I always thought that they were obligated to and it didn't feel real. But not the Mandala Spa & Resort. The staff here is phenomenal and they are what made my experience so pleasant and wonderful here.

For the Philippines, this is a very expensive resort but Boracay is known for being overpriced because of all of the tourists. Boracay as a whole is not a budget friendly place so if you're a solo backpacker just scraping to get by (like I was a couple of years ago) then I would stay far away from this island lol. We paid around $180 SGD a night so it wasn't too bad for us.

How to get to Boracay Island:

If you flew into Kalibo Airport like most tourists do then be prepared for a long journey. The Airport itself is super tiny! So standing in line to go through immigration is a nightmare. So when you leave, try to get there at least 2 hours before your flight departing from there.

Anyways, there will be people standing outside of the airport selling transportation packages that sell a bus and boat ride to Boracay Island. The car ride is about 2 hours long and it's not great for the people who get motion sick easily. So bring medicine! Then you will be taken to a ferry terminal that is just a short 15 minute boat ride to the island. Once you arrive there will be vans and tricycles that will take you to your hotel or resort.

Watch the sunset whilst drinking cocktails at Puka Beach:

Puka beach is the best spot to watch a quiet and romantic sunrise with lost of places to lounge with a drink. It is quite far to get to if you are staying in station 2 or station 3 like us but it is worth the adventure up here. The best way to get there is with a tricycle. If you don't know what they look like, I show them in my vlog several times.

We experimented with a DJI Phantom 4 Drone for the first time here and got some incredible aerial view shots. We made a cinematographic video with the drone that you can watch here. This just stepped up our photography game to a whole new level.

Make sure to bring bug spray in the evening since the bugs like to come out at that time at attack you especially if you had a sugary cocktail like me. πŸ™„

Eat dinner on the beach:

To celebrate the actual evening of our anniversary, we picked one out of many places to eat dinner on the beach. If you just take a stroll along White Beach in the evening, you will find dozens of restaurants on the beach front and even tables and chairs on the sand like we did. There was a live band playing covers of romantic songs, many candles, a large selection of wine to chose from, and a large variety buffet with a lot of traditional Filipino food that you must try like chicken adobo! As a (mostly) vegan eater, this was a good option because there were a lot of good vegetarian options such as filipino noodles, veggies, curries, and rice. Their dessert table had a lot of interesting and exotic fruits that were fun to try as well.

Go to White Beach:

White beach is the most popular beach in Boracay and there's a lot of good reasons why. It is called White Beach because of the picturesque white powdery beaches covering the entire coast line. Here you can do a lot of fun and unique water sports such as helmet diving, parasailing, scuba diving, paddle board, kayak, and other boat activities. There are booths everywhere where you can schedule your activities and excursions of choice so they are not hard to find.

Jump into the clear and crystal blue waters! It felt so refreshing and amazing and it was only something in my dreams until I went there.

We seriously got the best drone footage like wow. I want to take our drone everywhere now!

Sipping on coconut water straight from a coconut was my daily (or maybe hourly) ritual. Just living in para-para-paradise. 🌴

Seriously my most favorite time on this trip was hanging out at White Beach. Make it a priority to go here!

Take a yoga class:

Boracay has a lot of resorts with yoga classes that you can take. At the Mandala Spa Resort they had free yoga classes offered daily from 8:30-9:30 AM. How refreshing it was to say Namaste and practice my yoga in the jungle. I don't know about you but the ambience of a yoga studio is everything to me. So much better than doing yoga in a random sweaty gym in the middle of an American suburb. (been there done that)

Indulge in the Filipino food:

Filipino food is very different and unique to other asian cuisines I have tried. But I think we can all agree that if you come to the Philippines then your diet will consist of 92% mango I mean let's be real. I ate sooo many mangoes that I even got sick! But even after that I still didn't cut down my mango intake.. oops! Some dishes you should try are EchΓ³n which is a whole roasted pig, Longganisa which is a Philippine sausage dish, Tapa, Torta, Chicken and/or Pork Adobo (a very popular dish that my boyfriend likes the most), Kaldereta which is meat in a tomato sauce stew, Mechado, and Puchero. Being an (almost) vegan I obviously didn't try most of those things but I did try a bite of some beef and chicken adobo dishes and I was impressed with the flavor and taste. For the vegans out there I recommend checking out Nonnie's! They have a lot of Filipino vegan options! I got the vegan bao sliders and they were soooo tasty.

Try a Cleopatra bath:

If you are staying at a resort that offers spa services then take advantage of it! The resort I stayed offered us a Cleopatra Bath and it was very nice & relaxing! They filled up the bath with water, milk, and flower petals. They also provided us with cucumbers for our eyes, some cold towels, and (of course) fresh mango juice yaaaas! I couldn't believe that was my life at that moment. Like how did I get so lucky to be traveling the world with my love and experience all of these great things with him?! #blessed

On another note...

Since it was our biggest anniversary yet, we had lots of GIFTS!
Men's Gift Guide
These are the gifts that I got for James. He's a very practical guy and only likes getting things that he needs but sometimes he likes the occasional funny gift and/or thoughtful one that came straight from the heart. I got him a couple of nice shirts, a Daniel Wellington watch, a Star Wars water bottle, Havianas Sandals, Japanese candy, some light up initial marquees from Typo, and a coffee plant that will grow in 6 months. (he thought that was funny)

What to get your wife or girlfirend guide
These are my gifts that I received. James knows me so well! 😍 Thanks honey if you're reading this! I got this cute Gray Micheal Kors Purse, a teddy bear that says "I love you", a couple of motivational books, a gratitude conversation card kit, a yummy candle from kiki.k, and my favorite Body Shop lotion in "British Rose".

In conclusion:

3 days was not enough here and I would like to return again in the future and explore other places in The Philippines as well. I had a pleasant experience here minus the food poisoning and outrageous prices. This is a perfect spot for all honeymooners, wanderlusters, solo travelers, and for groups of people. I even saw a bunch of study abroad students studying at NUS in Singapore staying at our resort. If I were in their position, I would totally do the same. Boracay was a memorable trip and experience and I can't wait to return again one day. We filmed some vlogs if you would like to check them out here. Until next time...
