Free Romantic Date Ideas in Singapore

by - 4:21 AM

The best part about dating to me is the 4 letter f word. FREE date activities! If there's anything that I've learned in life it's that dating shouldn't have to cost a lot of money to have a romantic time with your significant other! When my boyfriend, James and I started dating we would go out to fancy restaurants and bars easily dropping a few hundred dollars in one night. It got to the point that it was more stressful than fun. We knew that we were living in an expensive city and that alcohol is ridiculously overpriced but we had to find some other way to have fun. We love to go out and have a good time but sometimes it doesn't matter where we are or what we're doing because we just want any reason to spend time together.

Singapore has a lot of amazing opportunities to have a romantic time with your loved one. The opportunities are endless. Anything from a nature walk, to going to a free show, and even just a stay at home cooking date!

After living here for almost a year, we have unlocked the secrets for you guys on the best free places and ideas for having a romantic date in Singapore.

I have compiled a list of fun, exciting, and romantic date ideas that are FREE!
Free Romantic Date Ideas in Singapore

1. Go for a hike at MacRitchie Reservoir

This is for the fitness junkies and the adventurous couples! Bring some good walking shoes and water because hiking at MacRitchie Reservoir will easily take you half the day to do. Hiking through the forests together with no phones or distractions can be very romantic. Get lost in conversation and enjoy the nature around you. Beware of the monkeys though. Although they are cute and look like they want to play, they actually can be quite vicious.

Our favorite activity at MacRitchie Reservoir is to do the TreeTop Walk. If that's not enough to do then I have a blog post on 4 Ways To Explore The MacRitchie Reservoir here. There are some key things you should know in there so I would read that before you visit!

2. Have a picnic in the park

Pack a picnic basket with some snacks, a blanket, fairy lights, and even bluetooth portable speakers for a romantic evening at the park! This is by far one of my most favorite free date night activities to do with my boyfriend. If you want to impress a girl, the fairy lights are a must because it sets the ambience and brings a lot of romantic ambience to the setting.

The picture displayed above however is actually from a picnic themed cafe event that we stumbled upon while we were in the Esplanade area. We vlogged our experience there after we did a Escooter Adventure around the Marina Bay. Although this date for us was not free, it totally can be!

3. Have a beach day at Sentosa

Free Romantic Date Ideas in Singapore
The best beaches in Singapore are at Sentosa Island. The coast is lined with bars, hotels, restaurants, and even homes! There are a lot of secluded spots as well where you can take out towel and lay out. This makes for a fun date idea because you can to relax in the sun and cool down in the water.

We tried going to the Tanjong Beach club (not free) on a random Saturday in Sentosa one time. In our vlog we described that it was fun and relaxing but the price isn't worth it for us. We prefer laying out underneath a palm tree and even swim with our flamingo floaties.

4. Get creative with cooking with ingredients already at home

Sometimes it's fun to get creative and have a laid back cooking date at home! You'll be surprised what you can make with the ingredients that you already have in your pantry and fridge. Some of my favorite recipes are ones that we came up with on the spot. Sometimes they are a bit weird and doesn't have a name but that's what makes it fun. Plus, you have nothing to loose if it doesn't work out. You can always run over to a hawker centre if it really turned out that bad.

But if you need some recipe ideas, we made this video on different (vegan/vegetarian) meals that we made in this video! Our favorite is the Cheesy Broccoli Potato dish. Chances are that you already have most of the ingredients already! Click here for the ingredients.

5. Watch the sunset at East Coast Park

One of the most romantic dates James and I have ever had is dancing to the sunset at East Coast Park in Singapore. We have been on the hunt for the best sunset spots in Singapore and this is by far one of our favorites. Grab your sweetheart before the sunset and take them here. It can be a hit or miss depending on the weather but this time for us it was perfect.

The time we came here was actually after we had the most amazing Vegan Pizza in Singapore that is conveniently walking distance to the beach. So if you did want to spend a little bit on food before, there are a lot of amazing options close by!

6. Go for a stroll around the Botanic Gardens

If MacRitchie Reservoir is a bit too much of a hassle for you then I would recommend going to the Botanic Gardens for a refreshing oasis of nature. The entrance is free and there are so many paths to walk along and discover. Best of all, it is so close to downtown and easily accessible by MRT so this one is easy to get to!

My first time at the gardens was almost 2 years ago which you can find here. If you want to get a glimpse of how it looks like then please check it out!

The Botanic Gardens have many various types of gardens and things to see. If you're lucky, you might stumble across a free concert at the Sympathy Stage. Check their website here to see what events and shows are going on.

7. Have Netflix Marathon at Home

One of the best ways to bond is over a Netflix TV series. James and I like to have stay at home dates where we just binge watch our favorite shows such as Orphan Black and Pretty Little Liars with some popcorn and various snacks.

Skip the hassle of going to the cinemas and get comfortable at home. Technically Netflix isn't free but if you're into YouTube videos then there is many great content out there such as daily vloggers, educational documentaries, and even hilarious prank videos to watch! Since we are daily vloggers, sometimes we like to go on a binge watching spree and take a walk down through memory lane by watching our own videos. If you would like to watch them then please check them out here.

8. Go sightseeing around Singapore

Hop on the MRT and just go exploring! Some of the best times together is just getting lost and having no destination. Take each other by the hand and go somewhere random. You never know when you can come across something fun and impressive. Get to know where you live and discover the hidden beauty within the city. If you need a 24 hour guide on what to see here then I recommend checking out this video guide that I made.

9. Watch the incredible Garden Rhapsody at The SuperTree Grove at Gardens by the Bay

Free Romantic Date Ideas in Singapore
My hands down favorite free date idea is going to Gardens by the Bay. There is so many free things to do and see here! Especially the Garden Rhapsody show at The SuperTree Grove at Gardens by the Bay. Watch the trees from below come to live and dance in tune with the music. Depending on the time of year, they have different themed shows.

I filmed my experience here and it is worth seeing I promise. No wonder so many tourists from all over the world go here to experience this astonishing sight!

In conclusion, it doesn't matter where you go or what you're doing as long as you're having fun! Don't get caught up with the price of things and just have fun! Life is too short to not enjoy it. What are your favorite date ideas in Singapore? Let me know in the comments down below!
